Please view the Tuberculosis (TB) Policy to determine if you must comply.

To comply with the TB Policy requirements you must:

All documents must be in English. Proof of compliance must be submitted before classes begin.

·    Provide a medical record from a physician, clinic or hospital indicating that you were tested for Tuberculosis in the six months prior to enrollment.  (preferred)

OR

·    Provide documentation of a negative chest x-ray in the six months prior to enrollment.

OR

·    Receive a TB skin test at OU Health Services at no cost to the student.

OR

·    Provide a medical record indicating successful treatment for TB disease.

The following procedure for the skin test must be used:

·    0.1ml of Purified Protein Derivative, (Mantoux), solution intradermally to the inner left forearm

·    Results must be read within 48-72 hours of administration.

·    Documentation must include date given, date read and results of indurations in mm.  Please document zero if no reaction.

Prior to each semester, OU Health Services will provide two TB screening clinics.  To inquire about clinic hours and location, please call International Student Services at (405) 325-3337.  If you were unable to meet the TB Policy requirements before classes began, please call OU Health Services at 325-4441 to schedule an appointment for a TB screening.

The test is a very small injection in your left forearm; it will cause a small bump.  Do not rub or scratch the bump.  You may see a red spot from the injection.  A nurse will determine if this spot is positive or negative.  A positive test means you may have been exposed to TB.  If your test is positive, a nurse will discuss the results with you, which usually takes about 20 minutes.  You may be told to have a chest x-ray.  If you need a chest x-ray, you MUST go directly to OU Health Services.  You may be contacted by the Cleveland County Health Department for further evaluation.

NOTE:  Please ensure that you complete an MMR vaccination at least six weeks before you arrive on campus.  The MMR vaccine may reduce the reactivity of the TB skin test because of mild suppression of the immune system.
